Yoga Poses to Do First Thing in the Morning

Feel groggy and achy whenever you wake up in the morning? Get rid of those feelings by having a gentler morning routine. Yoga is the perfect answer. The following two simple yoga poses will get your blood flowing and your body ready for the day, hopefully making each morning a little easier to bear from here on out.

The Cat and Cow

Here is a simple one that definitely helps your back get a chance to move around and prepare itself for the day. After all, your back handles most of your movements whenever you walk, sit, stand, or really, do anything!

Start by getting on all fours on the floor. Make sure that your hips are straight above your knees and that your shoulders are straight above your elbows and wrists.

Now, breathe in slowly and arch your spine like a cow, lifting your head and pulling it back. Roll your shoulders back too. Next, round your spine like cat as you exhale.  Put your head down and relax. Repeat.

Simple Twisting

You wouldn’t think that this is actually a yoga pose, but it truly is. Simply sit with your legs crossed on the floor and your back straight. Put your right hand on your left knee and left hand behind you on the ground. Slowly turn back toward your left side, gently turning your head back and toward the left as well. Hold for five seconds, then repeat on the other side.
