Yoga

Yoga provides emotional and physical health benefits, such as reduced stress, improved sleep, and increased flexibility. Doing yoga involves breathing, moving your body into certain postures, and meditating. If you’re not used to yoga, you should start with simple moves. You can slowly add more challenging moves to your yoga routine as you get better at it. All you need in order to do yoga is a comfortable outfit, a yoga mat, and videos to watch online or on DVD to help you learn how to do this form of exercise.

Stretches

In addition to yoga, doing basic stretches can help you become more flexible and improve your posture, which helps lower your risk of injuries or chronic pain. When you do stretching routines, try to include stretches that target different groups of muscles, such as leg and arm stretches or shoulder and abdominal stretches. You can do a workout involving one group of muscles on different days, or do a workout every other day that targets a few different muscle groups. Just make sure you give those muscle groups a day or two to recover in between workouts.

Free Weights

Free weights offer an easy way to build muscle strength at home without having to worry about making room for an entire weight bench. With a free weight in each hand, you can do a variety of lifting exercises to make your arm muscles stronger. Start with lighter weights if you’re not used to weightlifting, then gradually change to heavier weights over time.

1. Understand the relationship between emotions, thoughts, and actions. 

All three — emotions, thoughts and actions — are connected. This means that if you feel an emotion like sadness, it will often spur certain thoughts. In the case of sadness, these thoughts are usually not good ones and may cause even more sadness.

Both difficult emotions and negative thoughts can then, in turn, cause actions that are not good for you — such as lying in bed all day doing nothing.

When you better understand the relationship between your emotions, thoughts, and actions, you can stop negative thoughts or actions from taking over. In the end, this can positively influence your emotions and boost your mental health.

2. Create things you look forward to doing.

Certainly, this tip won't be the end-all, be-all of your mental health goals, but it's something that can improve your day-to-day life and keep you motivated.

When we say create something to look forward to doing, we're talking about something like meeting a friend for coffee, giving yourself a manicure, seeing a movie, or treating yourself to an ice cream cone on a sunny day.

Especially when things get hard and you're feeling down, creating something in the future that you look forward to can improve your mentality and make your whole day better.

3. Be grateful.

Lastly, remember to keep all of the things you're grateful for in mind as often as possible. Some people make it a point to list the things they're grateful for every morning or each evening before going to bed.

Studies and research have proven that doing this simple action can boost positivity, reduce depression, and help you focus on what's truly important in life.

Feel groggy and achy whenever you wake up in the morning? Get rid of those feelings by having a gentler morning routine. Yoga is the perfect answer. The following two simple yoga poses will get your blood flowing and your body ready for the day, hopefully making each morning a little easier to bear from here on out.

The Cat and Cow

Here is a simple one that definitely helps your back get a chance to move around and prepare itself for the day. After all, your back handles most of your movements whenever you walk, sit, stand, or really, do anything!

Start by getting on all fours on the floor. Make sure that your hips are straight above your knees and that your shoulders are straight above your elbows and wrists.

Now, breathe in slowly and arch your spine like a cow, lifting your head and pulling it back. Roll your shoulders back too. Next, round your spine like cat as you exhale.  Put your head down and relax. Repeat.

Simple Twisting

You wouldn’t think that this is actually a yoga pose, but it truly is. Simply sit with your legs crossed on the floor and your back straight. Put your right hand on your left knee and left hand behind you on the ground. Slowly turn back toward your left side, gently turning your head back and toward the left as well. Hold for five seconds, then repeat on the other side.
