No matter which floor plan you decide upon, it's always a good idea to set aside some space for a dining table area. No one wants to have to eat dinner on the couch. With a little bit of help and creativity, this is always possible. So, what do we do? The trick is to maximize the existing space so that it doesn’t look cramped.
  • Clear the clutter: The rooms can get filled up with non-essentials. Try to leave out or remove the clutter altogether, and make the room more spacious.
  • Check out smaller furniture: If the dining area is separate but is not large enough, then, you should go for a smaller and rounder table. You could buy chairs without arms so that they don’t take a lot of space. You can also fill in those card-table chairs, and drop-leaf tables. A glass top table can give an airy feeling, and will appear to take up less space through its translusence. Put some crystal and china on the corner edges.
  • Keep ornaments minimal: Instead of lining up placemats and/or ornamenting the table with plates and china sets, keep your table minimal with one, decorative centerpiece. A quaint vase of fresh flowers or a candle goes a long way. Sometimes, less is more.
  • Go for high tops: A high top table is perfect for smaller spaces. The longer, more slender build of high top tables allows them to take up less sqaure space, and barstools can be slid underneath while they're not in use.
  • Use free wall space: Instead of seeking out a free area of floor space, observe your interior for free wall space. Lining a table up against the wall or into a corner with just a couple of chairs will feel less cluttered and more assigned to its purpose.

These were some of the tips which can be followed to make your living space look bigger. The secret behind interiors is to tweak around to make the existing place look more spacious.
