The Best Glazed Ham

You’ll need a pre-cooked half ham of about six pounds. Heat the oven to 325˚F. You can bake it right on a foil-lined pan but an oven rack is better. Put the fat side up and score it 3/4 inch deep in a diamond pattern. Bake 8 to 20 minutes a pound, around two hours.

Now put together the glaze. In a saucepan, mix together ½ cup each of apple juice, brown sugar, and maple syrup with a heaping tablespoon of Dijon mustard. Optionally, add a pinch of cinnamon, nutmeg, and/or allspice. Cook at medium high until it boils, and boil for two minutes. Don’t let it boil over.

20 minutes before the ham is baked, spoon on half the glaze. Watch it seep into the cuts. Ten minutes later, add the rest.

When the ham reaches 140 degrees, it’s done. Pull it out and let it rest under loose foil for 10-15 minutes.

Carve it and eat it. The crust is delicious and the flavor seeps all the way through. Save leftovers for a quick and easy meal later in the week.
